Description
This is altar stands in the Cathedral in Austria called "Gurk Dom". It's one of my grandmother-in-law's (Omi's) favourite haunts. It is her 89th (?) birthday this week and it is rather nice that I had finished it today. I wonder what she'll say...
Gurk Cathedral was founded by the Benedictine order in the 11th century and is regarded as the most outstanding example of Romanesque architecture in Austria. This magnificent baroque altar which is adorned by 72 Life-sized statues and 82 angels’ heads.
It is so large. I didn't have a wide angle lens to photograph it , so I stitched the images with Photoshop. Tedious, but I am mastering the program in the process of it all. I also distorted the image to create more depth and impression of its vastness.
I also tried to loosen-up the brush here (not easy with so many tempting details ...oooh).
Only used 3 colors this time: Winsor Violet, Quinacridone Gold and Indigo...They resonate!!
I call it 'Builder's Guild' because it is known that the figures are modelled from the actual people who designed and built the Church. These ghosts still sit together, frozen by the work of their hands.
